Trainer - What day is it?
Student - I TOLD YOU, WHY DO YOU KEEP ASKING?! I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME!
Trainer - I want you to recognize what just happened. I kept asking you a question, and you kept responding correctly, but I kept asking the question. So then you got frustrated and confused, right? This is how your horse feels when you ask something of them and they respond correctly, but you don't stop asking the question.
In riding terms, since we don't actually ask our horses questions verbally, we ask them physically with aid pressure. Whether it be something in your seat, your hand, or your leg. But we must let them know when they answered correctly so that they don't get frustrated and confused. The way we let them know that they answered correctly is by releasing the pressure of the aid. That is the ultimate reward for correctly answering. So we must be extremely diligent about ensuring that we *ALWAYS* *IMMEDIATELY* release the aid pressure when they answer correctly. Otherwise we risk losing their understanding and their willingness to perform and answer in the future.
